So, onto our second video, a taste of a lecture from Uniting the Kingdoms.

In the medieval period the crown had been powerful. But by the beginning of the eighteenth century parliament had taken hold of the reins of government. Power came to rest in the hands of many MPs rather than the monarch and their retainers. In this lecture, Dr Lang asks - why did the crown loose out to parliament in the early modern period?

Whilst not every lecture will be recorded in a studio like this, we hope this gives you a taste of the kinds of things you'll be learning about on the degree and what lectures are often like.
